Obscurity

Games like Halo, Grand theft Auto, Pokemon, and Gears of War are all well known/ well received games. There are however games out there that are less known... obscure in a way. The ones that are not traditional, break the rules.
Games like Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, maybe even Metal Gear Solid. These games do not play like "normal games", they are sometimes considered odd. Metal Gear Solid; Stealth Introduction to gaming, shattering of the fourth wall, awesomely weird stories. Silent Hill; Psychological Terror, true horror, Frighteningly awesome stories, tank-controls. Fatal Frame; You kill ghosts with a camera (there are so many things wrong with that sentence), terrifying stories. These games were not in everyone's homes, they did not make every magazine cover. They were silent contestants in a crowded room of loud game announcements.
Not everyone adored these games, they did not please the masses, their effects were silent, but violent (^_^). These games (Fatal Frame not included?) Created some of the most rabid, dedicated, intelligent, and just plain awesome fanbases of all time. You want proof? Look up any Halo fan film, then compare it to the masterpiece Silent Hill: No escape, or to the amazing Metal Gear Compilations by Nyxus on gametrailers.com. There are some good Halo fanfilms, I know, but to me these are so much better. Please don't hate.
These games are masterpieces. They are clever, smart, scary, and at times mind-altering. I can proudly shine my badge as a member of the Silent Hill and Metal Gear rabid fans :).

PS. Sorry for the massive lateness

Videogame Emotions: Loneliness Part 2

Last time I did one of these (a long time ago, sorry bout that), we talked about the Silent Hill series creepy/depressing feelings of being alone. Today we'll talk about a happier game: Shadow of the Colossus. While Silent Hill was a terrifying environment where you were the only thing remotely human, (Yes I know you were with Maria and other people. They don't count.) Team Ico's masterpiece SotC, presents this enormous fantastically imagined world, that only you can travel. Instead of terrifying players, it gave you a sense of wonder and peace. That no one was there to bother you, there was no war, no drugs. Only peace. Shadow of the Colossus was a masterful game that flooded the player with many emotions. Peaceful Loneliness being one of those.

Dead Space 2

Hopefully you already know that I love the Dead Space series. I've played and sorta beaten both and loved every minute of each one. Well Dead Space 2 was obviously an enormous announcement for me. The ink blot is my desktop and the gameplay video is bookmarked =). Gears of Uncharted 2: Awesome

Okay I am way happy and disappointed. Uncharted 2 is one of my favorite games ever. It is a masterpiece and makes my PS3 useful. I wouldn't trade it for anything, but I want Gears of War!!!!!!!!! Ah! the graphics in gears two rival Uncharted one and even border on meeting two. It gives the Xbox 360 an enormous exclusive! Halo? Blah. Gears is where it's at. So Epic.... I love you. Please, Please!!!!! Give Sony some love!!!!

Battlefield Bad Company and Clash of the Titans

So this last week has been fun =) Rented Battlefield BC-2 and have been playing tons of multiplayer. So far my opinion is that Rush is awesome, probably my favorite mode, and that the Snipers are awesome. Overall the Multiplayer is just so awesome. Highlights include the first time you hit a spastic-helicopter with an RPG(non-lock-on), the first time you get a gravity-drop-head-shot, and the first time you place C4 on the fuel tank of a tank. I could go on and on. It's just awesome. The destruction, the gravity, the sound effects. Sigh. I also went and saw the Clash of the Titans remake. It was awesome. The camera was shaky at times and the beginning kind of jumped right into the action, but overall it was a great movie. Sometimes the cinematography reminded me of Lord of the Rings (Very good thing.) The action was good and I highly reccomend it, especially to God of War fans. I'll rate it when I get my rating system figured out >_<. Please comment! People do read this right? =) I know you do please comment.

Videogame Emotions: Loneliness

Over much thought...(haha)... I have decided that the Japanese are obsessed with loneliness. The art of feeling solitude, all alone, and without company. Well, to the games then. I am going to give two main examples; Silent Hill 2 and Shadow of the Colossus--- All of the Silent Hill games attempt to exercise and invoke the feeling of being alone, but i feel the one that succeeds the most is number two which is often considered the best and most frightening of the terrifying series. I can't help but agree. But fear is another emotion. The way Silent Hill 2 exercises loneliness in such an expert way are not only the Fog Sections, but the Otherworld as well. The ememies are somewhat abundant, but they are just unhuman and just silent enough that it makes your mind travel into the darkest most depressing part of solitude. There's no way to describe it. Just play it.
The next wonderfully lonely game is Shadow of the Colossus... but I'll make part II of this article later, soon I promise. Sorry for the late posting.

Emotions In Life/Gaming: Sadness

Sadness. One of the worst emotions ever. Unfortunately though it seems to be one that likes to rear it's ugly face much more than desired, even in video games. I had e relatively morbid day today so I decided to post on sadness and it's relation to our favorite hobby. The most talked about moment in video games that makes nerds everywhere shed tears, and that is (SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!): Aeris's Death in Final Fantasy VII. After getting to know and possibly bond with her throughout the game the geniuses at Square Enix threw an unforgettable curve-ball and had the infinitely awesome Sephiroth kill her. Forever. No pheonixdown ressurection. At all. It made grown men cry. BUT!!!! I have never played that game so I really don't know.... I have played Chrono Trigger though which at times was very sad. The one time I can remember right now is...MINOR SPOILER ALERT---When you go to Destroy a factory with newly found Robot friend Rob. When you are on your way out of the detonating factory. You run into Rob's robot companions. The music becomes very melancholy and the Robots tell Rob he is a defect for not killing you and you are helpless as they take your friend apart right in front of you. =( I'll do another Emotion post soon. Hopefully a happier one.

Mega Awesome

If you know old games, you know that they are hard(Awesome). The two main culprits of this are Castlevania and Mega Man. I'm a big fan of both, but uh, for today we talk about MEGA MAN! Alright Dr. Wily is an old guy that builds Robot Masters that are basically terrorist weapons. You were built by Dr. Right/Light; as Mega Man and you have to go destroy the Robot Masters (And steal their weapons!!!!!!!1!!) and save the world---Super original. Okay, so the reason I brought this up is because Mega Man 10 just came out and is too easy, bleh. Personally I think you should all go buy Mega Man 9 on Wiiware PSN or XBLA. Yeah, it's hard. Yeah, that's the way it's supposed to be. So yeah, awesome developers making awesome Retro-type-games. Why wouldn't you support that? Go buy Mega Man 9 and 10(If that floats your boat =/).

RPG Thursday: Chrono Trigger

Okay this is something I am probably going to start doing weekly/monthly(Good RPG's=Rare). Okay, this week i have chosen to write about Chrono Trigger(SNES, DS). This game is AWESOME. The story actually shocked me at points. Legitimately made me go "Holy Crap!". The gameplay is probably the most enjoyable RPG gameplay I have used. The battles happen using the ingame sprites unlike the older Final Fantasies, the attacks are amazing and balanced, and there is very little grinding. The graphics are stunning. They really draw you into the game, which is hard to do with 16-bits. All and all I freakin love this game. You should all play it!

Controversy in Gaming

Sigh, I love a good controversial story or action. Mass Effect 1, Modern Warfare 2's No Russian (One of two meaningful missions, in the ENTIRE single player) Doom, and loads others the gaming world alone has faced. Without ranting about the stupidity of Fox News, let's move on. Mass Effect made a point, as did No Russian (kinda badly, but still). Those are good examples. Now it's time for the bad -_-. Dante's Inferno. Ugh. Dante's Inferno was obviously trying to be a God of War game and adhere to it's fanbase. Like I have previously mentioned one of God of War's most demeaning features is the nudity. Oh. My. Gosh. Dante's Inferno makes God of War look like Harvest Moon. The game tried so hard to be controversial it ended up looking like fan-made garbage pile, furthering peoples purchasing decisions toward GOOD action games. Yeah it's God of War with more nudity in it and that is a very, very bad thing. Okay Rant Status: Over. I hope you can now see that there is a line, much like the uncanny valley, in which Developers need to know about. It's the controversy line; one side makes you look courageous and thoughtful, the other side makes you look like a child. I think you know which is which.

The GameOverThinker and Battlefield Bad Company 2

Alright today was a mixed bag of emotions. Lot's of these emotions involving uprising and standing up for good purposes. Today I watched an episode of The Game Over Thinker on screwattack.com (g1's FTW!) where he talked about building a better gamer. No he doesn't give tips on "how to prestige" or anything like that. He talks about real issues and it's really well done. It may make some of you angry, but if you go in trying to be a better person you will definetly be rewarded (Warning: Contains some Cussing if you're easily offended) . In other news Battlefield Bad Company 2 is looking absolutely amazing. I'll probably review it if I buy it >.<. Check out some amazing Gameplay on Gametrailers.com if you want.

God of War Sadness

I am a Sony follower all the way (Don't hate appreciate, I'm not a fanboy). As most of you probably know God of War III is a PS3 exclusive coming very soon... and it looks AWESOME! Th scale is awesome, the story is awesome, the action is awesome, but it's got Nudity and Sex used in a pointless crude way. Ugh, facepalm. That just lost my sixty bucks because of that. Y_Y Not saying I'm for censorship or anything, but couldn't this have been done in a different way? Oh well, I'll just play Bayonetta instead! (Irony intented)

My gaming point of view start up

This is the start up of My gaming point of view or MGPOV. In this blog I will give my, an actual gamer's, point of view on the Gaming Industry and things of the like. I might rant sometimes, haha, it's just in my nature. If you're reading this, thanks for reading I'll update ASAP and regularly. Feel free to comment. Thanks again, Gamerer
